2018 Opel Insignia GSi Sports Tourer
If you’re after outright performance, the gasoline model is still the better choice.
It was only yesterday when Opel introduced its new biturbo four-cylinder, 2.0-liter diesel engine and now is already putting it to good use in the Insignia GSi Sports Tourer unveiled today. It has the exact same output of 210 horsepower (154 kilowatts) at 4,000 rpm and a more than generous maximum torque of 354 pound-feet (480 Newton-meters) attainable from a low 1,500 rpm.
Armed with the new diesel engine benefiting from two-stage turbocharging, the sporty midsize wagon from Opel will do the 0-62 mph (0-100 kph) run in 7.9 seconds on its way to a respectable top speed of 144 mph (231 kph).
If you’re willing to sacrifice some of the torque for the sake of enjoying the smoothness of a gasoline engine, the 2.0-liter unit from the hatchback unveiled back in July will also be available in the Sports Tourer. It’s good for 260 hp (191 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm), enabling the family hauler to complete the sprint four tenths of a second sooner, in 7.5 seconds. Not only is it quicker, but take it to the max and it will also prove to be faster by hitting 152 mph (245 kph)…
